Saints alive!
Thursday, 03/12/2009
Southampton are set to pull off the great escape after pulling out of the League One relegation zone for the first time this season.
Saints were deducted ten points before the season began which resulted in their relegation from the Championship - but the appointment of boss Alan Pardew and signing of striker Rickie Lambert have proved major coups.
Lambert fired his 15th goal of the season as Southampton beat Wycombe 1-0 to climb out of the bottom four for the first time. Saints are now on 19 points - the ten they were deducted could have taken them to just below the play off spots!
Boss Pardew said: “The last 16 or 17 games we’ve been probably as good as anyone in the division with the exception probably of Leeds. Now is a time to build and keep strong."
