Eduardo nears Arsenal exit
Tuesday, 20/07/2010
Arsene Wenger will continue rebuilding his Arsenal squad by completing the sale of Eduardo da Silva to Shakhtar Donetsk.
With Robin van Persie returning to fitness and the acquisition of Marouane Chamakh, Eduardo would've started the season well down the pecking order in his manager's plans.
The 27-year-old will be looking to get his career back on track in Ukraine, having stalled since breaking his leg against Birmingham in February 2008.
His national team boss, Slaven Bilic, has offered his blessing for the move to Donetsk, where Eduardo will be reunited with international compatriot Dario Srna - who is club captain.
The Croatia forward was left out of the Arsenal squad that flew to Austria for their pre-season tour on Monday, so to complete his move.
Eduardo is just the latest in a list of players to be culled by Wenger this summer, following the likes of Philippe Senderos, William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and Fran Merida. Sol Campbell is another likely to leave the Emirates, with a move to Sunderland likely.
