Crunch time at Portsmouth
Friday, 01/01/2010
Portsmouth players are finally expected to be paid on Tuesday - but a big question mark hangs over the club and the future of some of its players.
Pompey are currently bottom of the Premier League, players have had salaries delayed and they face a High Court case in January to stave off various tax and PAYE payments due to the government.
They are also operating under a Premier League transfer embargo over money not paid on previous player dealings. No players can be brought into the club until this is resolved. That could mean some more players having to be sold by the club who have already offloaded a lot of stars.
Those players who could attract interest include England keeper David James, his stand-in Asmir Begovic, Nadir Belhadj, Younes Kaboul and David Nugent.
