Championship clubs queue up for Saints striker

As many as eight Championships clubs are interested in taking Southampton striker Sam Gallagher on loan next season.

Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Brighton and Hove Albion, Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Middlesbrough, Sheffield Wednesday and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all weighing up moves for the 19-year-old forward.

Gallagher, who began his career at Plymouth Argyle, failed to score in 12 appearances for Ronald Koeman’s Saints last season in all competitions.

Reports suggest the England Under-19 international is poised for a loan spell away from St Mary’s this season to gain more first-team experience after an injury stricken 2014-15 campaign.
